This paper is concerned with the global existence and blow-up of smooth solutions of the Cauchy problem for an isentropic compressible ideal gas flow governed by the Euler equations with time-depending damping (source) term involving two non-negative parameters. Assuming the initial flow to be irrotational and the flow velocity to be sufficiently small, it is shown that there exists a global smooth solution or a blow-up in a finite time depending on the values of parameters; a critical value of one of the parameters is shown to exist for the global existence of small amplitude smooth solutions.
