The authors study affine hypersurfaces in the (\(n+1\))-dimensional affine space. The most important class of such hypersurfaces are without any doubt the so-called affine hyperspheres. These are affine hypersurfaces for which all affine normals are either parallel or pass through a fixed point. In contrast to what one might expect there exists actually a very large class of hypersurfaces satisfying the above property. In the present paper the authors deal with the two-dimensional case (both elliptic and hyperbolic) and they first recall in detail the loop group description of such affine hyperspheres. They classify the simple rational elements in certain twisted loop groups and compute the corresponding dressing actions. They use this to construct explicitly some examples of affine hyperspheres (with corresponding pictures).
