Let \(\mathcal{A}\) be a bicomplete abelian category with enough injectives and enough projectives. Then the subcategory \(GProj({\mathcal A})\) (respectively \(GInj({\mathcal A}\)) of Gorenstein projective (respectively Gorenstein injective) objects of \(\mathcal A\) is a Frobenius category and its associated stable category \({\underline{GProj}(\mathcal A})\) (respectively \({\underline{GInj}(\mathcal A})\)) is triangulated. The authors construct some model categories for which the associated homotopy categories are \({\underline{GProj}(\mathcal A})\) and \({\underline{GInj}(\mathcal A})\). Moreover, it is proved that the existence of an adjoint pair of endofunctors on \(\mathcal A\) with certain properties implies that these model categories are Quillen equivalent, and this induces an equivalence of triangulated categories between \({\underline{GProj}(\mathcal A})\) and \({\underline{GInj}(\mathcal A})\). It is also investigated when such a Quillen equivalence transfers to the category of chain complexes.
