The authors compute the asymptotic growth rate of the number of closed geodesics with bounded length in a component of a stratum of quadratic differentials. By a lattice counting process, they prove that for any parameter $\theta$ between 0 and 1, the number of closed geodesics of bounded length such that the number of closed geodesics spends at least a $\theta$-fraction of its time outside a compact subset is exponentially smaller than the number of closed geodesics with bounded length. This is a very nice paper for those working with the geometry of Riemann surfaces, Teichmüller spaces, quadratic differentials and related topics.
