    The author obtains a stable and convergent finite difference method for the initial value problem for the modified Hunter-Saxton equation \[ u_{tx}+\frac{1}{2}(u^2)_{xx}=2\omega u+\frac{1}{2}u^2_x \] in a periodic domain. The author develops a conservative finite difference scheme for the numerical approximation of the solution. Further, the stability of the numerical solution in the sense of the uniform norm, and the uniform convergence of the numerical solutions to sufficiently smooth exact solutions are obtained.
