Let $G$ be a discrete group and let $B(G)$ denote the Fourier-Stieltjets algebra of the group $G$. It is shown that when $G$ contains an infinite Abelian group, the Wiener-Pitt phenomenon occurs, i.e. there exists an element $b$ in $B(G)$ such that its spectrum $\sigma (b) \varsubsetneq \overline {b(G)}$ and the Gelfand space $\Delta ( B(G) )$ has an uncountable family of pairwise disjoint open sets. The authors study the `algebraic size' and the algebraic properties of the set of all elements $b$ in $B(G)$ with a natural spectrum, i.e. $\sigma (b) = \overline {b(G)}$ and decompose any element in $B(G)$ as sum of elements with a natural spectrum. The authors also investigate the notion of absolute continuity and mutual singularity of elements in $B(G)$.
