A \textit{co-Higgs} bundle on a variety \(X\) is a holomorphic bundle \(E\) over \(X\) equipped with a \textit{co-Higgs field}, which is a twisted endomorphism \(\phi : E \to E \otimes TX\) satisfying the integrability condition \(\phi \wedge \phi = 0\). Co-Higgs bundles may be thought of as analogues of Higgs bundles for Fano varieties. Now suppose \(X\) is a compact Riemann surface of genus \(g \geq 3\). Let \(M_\xi\) be the moduli space of stable bundles of rank \(r\) and determinant \(\xi\), where \(\deg(\xi)\) and \(r\) are relatively prime. In this case \(M_\xi\) is a projective Fano variety. Furthermore, one can choose a Poincaré bundle \({\mathcal E} \to X \times M_\xi\). Let \({\mathcal E}_x\) be the restriction of \({\mathcal E}\) to \(\{ x \} \times M_\xi \cong M_\xi\). For each \(x \in X\), the authors construct a family of co-Higgs fields \(\{ \gamma (v) : v \in T_x X \}\) on \({\mathcal E}_x\) with the property that \(\gamma (v)\) is integrable if and only if \(v = 0\). They show that this determines an isomorphism between \(X\) (more precisely, the zero section of \(T_X\)) and a component of the moduli space of integrable co-Higgs bundles on \(M_\xi\). A significant part of the proof consists of showing the existence for each \(x \in X\) of a nonempty Zariski open subset \(U_\xi\) of \(M_\xi\) satisfying \(H^0 ( X, \mathrm{End} (E) \otimes {\mathcal O}_X(x)) = 1\) for \(E \in U_\xi\). We remark that the density of bundles with this property in \(M_\xi\) also follows from Proposition 3.2 of \textit{J.-M. Hwang} and \textit{S. Ramanan} [Ann. Sci. Éc. Norm. Supér. (4) 37, No. 5, 801--817 (2004; Zbl 1073.14046)].
