The authors study the classical Dirac-Frenkel principle and apply it to fermionic and bosonic many particle systems. The Bogoliubov-de Gennes and Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov equations are obtained. The Dirac-Frenkel principle is reformulated in terms of reduced density matrices. Finally, well-posedness of the Bogoliubov-de Gennes equation is shown under suitable assumptions on the kinetic energy operator and the initial data. It is further shown that the solution of the Bogoliubov-de Gennes equation has a time independent spectrum.
