This paper concerns Riesz potentials of the form \(u(y)=\sum_{j=1}^{N}\left | y-x_{j}\right| ^{-s}\), where \(x_{1},\dots,x_{N}\) belong to a \(d\) -dimensional compact set \(A\) in \(\mathbb{R}^{l}\) and \(s>d\). For a given value of \(N\) a configuration \(\{x_{1},\dots,x_{N}\}\), where repetitions are allowed, is called optimal if it achieves the highest possible value for \(\min_{A}u\). The authors investigate separation and covering properties of optimal \(N\)-point configurations, and the asymptotic behaviour of the best covering constant as \(N\rightarrow \infty \).
