The authors consider variational problems for Dirichlet's and Rayleigh's functionals, which describe continual densities generated by systems with a long-range repelling. The main results include proving the existence of a minimizer and its optimal interior regularity and the derivation of a free boundary condition (for the first problem) as well as the existence of weak solution supplied with the global optimal regularity, and a free boundary condition for the regular part (for the second problem).
