Let \(F\) be a non-Archimedean local field of characteristic 0. Let \(W\) be a symplectic space over \(F\). Let \(\text{Sp}(W)\) denote the symplectic group of \(W\) and \(\widetilde{\text{Sp}}(W)\) the 2-fold cover of \(\text{Sp}(W)\), the metaplectic group. Consider the space \(\text{Hom}_{\widetilde{\text{Sp}}(W)}(\pi \otimes \bar{\omega}_{\psi},1)\), where \(\pi\) is an irreducible genuine representation of \(\widetilde{\text{Sp}}(W) \times \text{Sp}(W)\), \(\omega_{\psi}\) is the Weil representation of \(\widetilde{\text{Sp}}(W)\) and \(\widetilde{\text{Sp}}(W)\) is embedded in \(\widetilde{\text{Sp}}(W) \times \text{Sp}(W)\) by the map \(h\mapsto (h, \text{pr}(h))\). This space has dimension \(\leq 1\). The Gan-Gross-Prasad conjecture concerns the determination of the representations \(\pi\) for which the space is nonzero by means of Langlands parameters. We have the Langlands parameters for the representations of \(\text{Sp}(W)\). The local theta correspondence gives a bijection between the set of irreducible genuine representations of \(\widetilde{\text{Sp}}(W)\) and irreducible representations of certain special orthogonal groups. The Langlands parameters of the latter are used to parametrize the representations of \(\widetilde{\text{Sp}}(W)\). In the present article, the proof of the conjecture is reduced to the explicit description of the local theta correspondence between \(\text{Sp}(W)\) and appropriate orthogonal groups. The reduction comes from a seesaw diagram of dual reductive pairs (dual in the sense of the theta correspondence) which relates the present conjecture to the Gan-Gross-Prasad conjecture for orthogonal groups, which has been proved. The author indicates precisely his assumptions regarding the local Langlands correspondence.
