Let \(A\) be a \(C^*\)-algebra, \(kA\) and \(lA\) connective topological \(K\)-theory and connective algebraic \(L\)-theory respectively. A map \(\tau_A:kA\to lA\) is constructed, which is natural in \(A\) and compatible with multiplicative structures. As a consequence, a natural equivalence \(KA\left[\frac{1}{2}\right]\cong LA\left[\frac{1}{2}\right]\) between periodic \(K\)- and \(L\)-theory spectra after inverting 2 is obtained. A similar equivalence is obtained for real \(C^\ast\)-algebras, and a comparison between the real Baum-Connes conjecture and the \(L\)-theoretic Farrell-Jones conjecture is discussed.
