The aim of this partly expository paper is to review some basic results involving faithful amenable actions over the class of countable groups that preserve a locally finite metric. Section 1 has an introductory character. In Section 2, a short review is performed concerning different notions of amenable actions. Section 3 is devoted to some preliminary facts on f.s.o. (finite stabilizers orbits) actions; especially, the automorphisms of locally finite connected graphs. Further, in Section 4, various characterizations of amenable f.s.o. actions are presented; as well as a review of several basic facts about amenable actions on locally finite connected graphs. Finally, in Section 5, some features and properties are described for the class of countable groups that admit faithful, transitive, amenable f.s.o. (finite stabilizers orbits) actions, with a special emphasis on faithful, transitive, amenable actions on locally finite connected graphs. Further aspects induced by these developments are also discussed.
