Let \(g(z)=e^{-{{1}\over{2}}|z|^2}\) be the standard Gaussian weight. For \(0<p\leq\infty\), let \(L^p_g\) be the weighted Lebesgue space consisting of all measurable functions \(\psi\) on \(\mathbb C^n\) such that \(\psi g\) belongs to \(L^p(\mathbb C^n)\), the usual Lebesgue space with respect to the volume measure on \(\mathbb C^n\). The norm of \(\psi\in L^p_g\) is given by \(\|\psi\|_p=c_p\|\psi g\|_{L^p(\mathbb C^n)}\) where \(c_p>0\) is a normalizing constant so that \(\|1\|_p=1\). Given a nonnegative integer \(m\), the authors introduce and study the Fock-Sobolev space \(F^{p, m}\) of order \(m\) consisting of all entire functions \(f\) on \(\mathbb C^n\) such that \(\|f\|_{F^{p,m}}:=\sum_{|\alpha|\leq m} \|\partial^\alpha f\|_p<\infty\). In the case \(m=0\), put \(F^p=F^{p.0}\). First, the authors give a Fourier type characterization asserting that \(f\in F^{p, m}\) if and only if \(z^\alpha f\in F^p\) for all \(\alpha\) with \(|\alpha|=m\). Naturally, the norm of \(f\in F^{p, m}\) is shown to be comparable to the norm of \(|z|^m f\) in \(L^p_g\). So, the space \(F^{p,m}\) turns out to be a closed subspace of \(L^{p,m}_g\) which is the space of all measurable functions \(\psi\) on \(\mathbb C^n\) such that the function \(|z|^m \psi\) belongs to \(L^p_g\). Next, based on such a characterization, the authors obtain the following fundamental properties of the Fock-Sobolev spaces: (1) An explicit description of the reproducing kernel for the space \(F^{2,m}\); (2) the property of \(P_m:L^{p,m}_g\to F^{p,m}\) being a bounded projection for each \(1\leq p\leq \infty\), where \(P_m:L^{2,m}_g\to F^{2, m}\) is the orthogonal projection; (3) characterizations (under natural integral pairings) of the duality \((F^{p,m})^*\cong F^{q,m}\) for \(1<p<\infty\), where \(q\) is the conjugate index of \(p\) and, more interestingly, \((F^{p,m})^*\cong F^{\infty,m}\) for \(0<p\leq 1\); (4) a characterization of the (vanishing) Carleson measures for the space \(F^{p,m}\) for \(0<p<\infty\).
