Summary: Suppose that \(E\) is a real normed linear space, \(C\) is a nonempty convex subset of \(E, T : C \rightarrow C\) is a Lipschitzian mapping, and \(x^\ast \in C\) is a fixed point of \(T\). For given \(x_0 \in C\), suppose that the sequence \(\{x_n\} \subset C\) is the Mann iterative sequence defined by \(x_{n+1} = (1 - \alpha_n)x_n + \alpha_n Tx_n, n \geq 0\), where \(\{\alpha_n\}\) is a sequence in \([0, 1], \sum^\infty_{n=0} \alpha^2_n < \infty, \sum^\infty_{n=0} \alpha_n = \infty\). We prove that the sequence \(\{x_n\}\) strongly converges to \(x^\ast\) if and only if there exists a strictly increasing function \(\Phi : [0, \infty) \rightarrow [0, \infty)\) with \(\Phi(0) = 0\) such that \(\lim \sup_{n \rightarrow \infty} \inf_{j(x_n - x^\ast) \epsilon J(x_n - x^\ast)} \{\langle Tx_n - x^\ast, j(x_n - x^\ast)\rangle - ||x_n - x^\ast||^2 + \Phi(||x_n - x^\ast||)\} \leq 0\).
