The author considers equiaffine isoparametric hypersurfaces in the affine space, which are not necessarily nondegenerate, as a natural generalization of the cases of pseudo-Riemannian isoparametric hypersurfaces and Blaschke isoparametric hypersurfaces. An affine immersion \(f: (M^n, \nabla)\to (\mathbb{R}^{n+1}, D)\), with a transversal vector field \(\xi\), is said to be isoparametric if the characteristic polynomial of the affine shape operator \(S\) has constant coefficients in \(M\). The complex eigenvalues of \(S\) are called their affine principal curvatures. By assuming certain technical conditions the author obtains Cartan's identities for affine principal curvatures of an equiaffine isoparametric hypersurface. The mentioned conditions are automatically satisfied in the Riemannian as well as the pseudo-Riemannian case. He also treats the case of nondegenerate equiaffine isoparametric hypersurfaces by assuming a technical condition on the cubic form.
