The author constructs modular compactifications of some moduli spaces obtained as solutions to moduli problems involving semistable \(K3\) surfaces and studies their relations with minimal and toroidal compactifications of period spaces and with certain automorphic forms. He also discusses Picard functors for log schemes and a logarithmic version of Artin's method of proving representability by an algebraic stack.
