Let \(E\) be the symbolic operator defined as \(Ef(t)=f(t+1)\). The authors obtain symbolic expansions of \((1-xE)^{-1}\), where \(1\) is the identity operator and \(x\in\mathbb{R}\). From these expansions they derive various symbolic operational formulas and summation formulas for efficient evaluation of power series of the form \(\sum_k f(k)x^k\). These results can be applied to yield old and new series transforms which convert slowly convergent series into quickly convergent ones. Some examples and numerical tests are given to show the power of this approach. Classical interpolation methods are used to establish summation formulas with explicit remainders.
