The authors study the existence and nonexistence of positive solutions and supersolutions to the superlinear second-order divergence type elliptic equation \[ -\nabla\cdot a\cdot\nabla u=u^p\text{ in } \Omega,\tag{1} \] where \(p<1\), \(\Omega \subset\mathbb R^N\) \((N\geq 3)\) is an unbounded domain and \(-\nabla\cdot a\cdot\nabla :=\sum^N_{i,j=1} \frac{\partial}{\partial x_i}(a_{ij}(x)\frac{\partial}{\partial x_j})\) is a second-order divergence type elliptic expressions. The authors develop a new method of studying nonexistence of positive solutions to (1) in cone-like domains. The method is based on the maximum principle and asymptotic properties at infinity of the corresponding solutions to the homogeneous linear equation.
