    A semigroup \({\mathcal S}\) of operators \(S\in{\mathcal B}({\mathcal X})_+\), preserving non-negative functions (\(S{\mathcal X}_+\subset{\mathcal X}_+\)), on a Banach lattice \({\mathcal X}=L^p(X,\mu )\), \(1\leq p<\infty\), has a simultaneous standard trangularization (SST) if there is a certain ordered maximal chain of \({\mathcal S}\)-invariant subspaces \({\mathcal X}_\alpha \) which are standard, \({\mathcal X}_\alpha \approx L^p(X_\alpha ,\mu | _{X_\alpha })\), \(X_\alpha \subset X\). For the background and related results, see the monograph [\textit{H.~Radjavi and P.~Rosenthal}, ``Simultaneous triangularization'' (Universitext, Springer, NY) (2000; Zbl 0981.15007)]. Under mild conditions (SST) follows from individual (ST) for each \(S\in {\mathcal S}\) when \(S=\lambda I+T\), \(T\) compact. Section 2 deals with this, mainly, for integral operators \(T\geq 0\). Section 3 introduces a generalized determinant \(\delta (S)\) for \(S=I+T\) with trace class \(T\geq0\). The submultiplicativity of the function \(\delta \) on \({\mathcal S}\) proves to be equivalent to (SST).
