Let \(R\) be a subring of \(\mathbb{Q}\) and \(p\) the last prime which is not an unit of \(R\). The category \(\text{DGL}^{np}_n\) of \((n-1)\)-connected \(np\)-dimensional differential graded free algebras (free dgl) over \(R\) has an homotopy defined by \textit{D. J. Anick} [J. Am. Math. Soc. 2, No. 3, 417--453 (1989; Zbl 0681.55006)]. Using the Whitehead exact sequence associated to a free dgl, this paper considers the characterization of the homotopy equivalence class for a given free dgl in \(\text{DGL}^{3n+2}_n\) and the number of homotopy classes of such objects. Geometric applications and examples are given in the last part.
