Consider the singular initial value problem \[ y'= q(t) f(t,y),\quad 0< t< T,\quad y(0)= 0, \] where the nonlinearity \(f\) is allowed to change sign. \(f\) and \(q\) are supposed to be continuous, where \(q\) is positive on \([0,T]\). Combining ideas due to \textit{P. Habets} and \textit{F. Zanolin} [J. Math. Anal. Appl. 181, No. 3, 684--700 (1994; Zbl 0801.34029)] and \textit{R. P. Agarwal}, \textit{D. O'Regan, V. Laksmikantham} and \textit{S. Leela} [Nonlinear Anal., Theory Methods Appl. 50, 215--222 (2002; Zbl 1010.34011)], the authors present very general existence results.
