Suppose the connected simple Lie group \(G\) acts on a real analytic manifold \(M\) preserving a connection and a volume form. The aim of this paper is to describe the measure-theoretic structure of such actions while the real rank of \(G\) is at least 2. The main result is that under mild restrictions the entropy of this action is arithmetic, i.e., there exists an arithmetic manifold (= quotient of a homogeneous space by an arithmetic group) \(K\setminus H/T\) such that the entropy satisfies \(h(g,M) = h(g,K\setminus H/\Gamma)\), where \(G\) acts on the quotient via a homomorphism \(G\to H\) that centralizes the compact group \(K\).
