The paper brings interesting results about varieties of residuated lattices or residuated partially ordered monoids. The central result characterizes the join of the variety of integral residuated lattices and the variety of lattice-ordered groups. Since this join is their direct product, the authors were led to the description of the semi-direct product of these two varieties. Moreover, a connection with the theory of MV-algebras is presented.
