The paper under review is devoted to improve the results in [\textit{U. Bader} and \textit{A. Nevo}, J. Differ. Geom. 60, 355--387 (2002; Zbl 1076.53083)] about conformal pseudo-Riemannian actions of simple Lie groups and accordingly the authors obtain the following: Let \(G\) be a connected simple Lie group acting smoothly and conformally on a smooth compact pseudo-Riemannian manifold \(M\) of type \((p,q)\) with \(p \geq 2.\) If the rank of \(G\) is \(p+1,\) then (i) the group \(G\) is locally conformally equivalent to \(\text{SO}^o(p+1,k+1)\) for some \(k\) such that \(p \leq k \leq q,\) (ii) up to finite cover, \(M\) is conformally equivalent to the space \(C^{p,k}.\) The main difference between the result stated above and the similar one in [\textit{U. Bader} and \textit{A. Nevo}, loc. cit.] is the rigidity property that is lighten up to have the second part in the current paper. They also prove the analogue version of the above result for the Lorentzian case that can be briefly stated as follows: Let \(G\) be a connected simple Lie group of rank \(2,\) acting smoothly and conformally on a smooth compact Lorentz manifold \(M\) of dimension \(n.\) Then (i) the group \(G\) is locally isomorphic to \(\text{SO}^o(2,k)\) for some \(k\) such that \(3 \leq k \leq n,\) (ii) \(M\) is, up to finite cover, a complete conformally flat structure on \(\mathbb S^1 \times \mathbb S^{n-1}.\)
