The authors prove the convergence when \(\varepsilon\to 0\) of solutions of the equation \[ \varepsilon^2 u''(t;\varepsilon) + u'(t;\varepsilon) = (\varepsilon^2+B)u(t;\varepsilon) + \int_0^t K(t-s)(\varepsilon^2 A + B)u(s;\varepsilon)\, ds+ f(t;\varepsilon), \] with intial values \(u(0;\varepsilon)=u_0(\varepsilon)\), \(u'(0;\varepsilon)=u_1(\varepsilon)\) to solutions of \[ w'(t)= Bw(t) + \int_0^t K(t-s)Bw(s)\, ds+ f(t), \] with initial value \(w(0)= w_0\). Here \(A\) and \(B\) are linear operators in a Banach space \(X\) such that \(D(A)\cap D(B)\) is dense in \(X\), \(\varepsilon^2 A + B\) is the generator of a strongly continuous cosine function on \(X\), and \(B\) is the closure of its restriction to the domain of \(A\). The kernel \(K\) is operator-valued and twice differentiable.
