The author studies circle actions on compact oriented manifolds with discrete fixed point sets. He proves some results and properties of these actions in terms of the weights at the fixed points. In the special case of dimension 4, he classifies the weights at the fixed points and proves that there exist circle actions on oriented manifolds with these fixed point data.
