\textit{W. Arveson} [Isr. J. Math. 184, 349--385 (2011; Zbl 1266.46045)] initiated the study of the ``noncommutative approximation theory'' and dealt with the question of hyperrigidity of a set of generators of a \(C^*\)-algebra. The relationship between hyperrigid operator systems and boundary representations was investigated. The article under review is motivated by this and \textit{A. Hopenwasser}'s [Proc. Am. Math. Soc. 71, 95--98 (1978; Zbl 0384.46037)] result that the set of boundary representations for the tensor product of \(C^*\)-algebras can be identified with the Cartesian product of the boundary representation of the constituent \(C^*\)-algebras, provided that one of them is a GCR algebra. In the main result, the authors prove that the unique extension property of the completely positive maps on operator systems carries over to the tensor product of those maps defined on the tensor product of the operator systems, and they hence relate the hyperrigidity of the tensor product of two operator systems with the hyperrigidty of individual operator systems. They further prove Hopenwasser's result as a corollary.
