      The authors study the inverse problem of determining \(f(x)\) in the Cauchy problem \(\varepsilon^2 u_{tt}+u_t=u_{xx}+f(x)\), \(x\in \mathbb R\), \(0\leq t \leq T\); \(u(x,0)=u_t(x,0)=0\), \(x\in \mathbb R \), from the data \(u(0,t)=g(t)\), \(u_x(0,t)=h(t)\) for \(0\leq t \leq T\). In the case where \(g\in C^2[0,T]\), \(h \in C^1[0,T]\), \(g(0)=g^{\prime}(0)=h(0)=h^{\prime}(0)=0\), the existence and uniqueness of \(f\in C[-T/\varepsilon, T/\varepsilon]\) is proved. Results of numerical experiments are also discussed.
