Let \(G\) be a connected simple complex Lie group. From the Iwasawa decomposition \(G=K\times AN\) one gets Poisson Lie group structures on \(K\) and \(AN\) and with appropriate choice of signs these give rise to a Poisson Lie structure on \(G\) such that the Iwasawa decomposition is a Poisson diffeomorphism. Then again from the Iwasawa decomposition one gets a left action of \(AN\) on \(K\) and a right action of \(K\) on \(AN\) which are again Poisson mappings, the so called dressing transformations. The orbits in \(K\) of this action are the symplectic leaves of the Poisson structure. After discussing these facts and reviewing the F-R-T approach to quantum groups the authors study the quantum analog of these constructions. The quantum dressing transformations are constructed using the quantum double. Then the authors give an explicit construction of the analogs of symplectic leaves on the quantum group \(SU_ q(2)\) and introduce a differential calculus on them. Then they relate these constructions to quantum Weyl elements and to the quantum dressing transformations. Finally they apply their results to the study of irreducible \(*\)-representations of \(SU_ q\), both in the spirit of geometric quantization and of Berezin's quantization.
