The author constructs a Lagrangian model of a two-phase porous material. Such a description, particularly useful in computer-aided solutions, has not been used before for multiphase systems, where the skeleton was usually described in Lagrangian coordinates and the fluid components in Eulerian coordinates. It is shown here that the new Lagrangian description allows relatively simple formulation of the problem of thermodynamical admissibility. The author shows for the first time how the second law of thermodynamics can be used by means of Lagrange multipliers. It is noted that the present formulation allows to overcome the usual thermodynamic difficulties connected with effective stresses in the theory of porous material. The paper, though clearly written, is quite mathematical in nature. However, the author promises to report some numerical results on this subject in a forthcoming paper.
