The authors consider the continuous plus semicontinuous convolution dilation operators \[ \begin{multlined}(W^\alpha_{c,b}f)(x)= \int_{\mathbb{R}} c(\alpha x-y)f(y) dy+\sum^\infty_{k=1} c_k f(\alpha x-b_k),\\ x\in\mathbb{R},\;f\in L_2(\mathbb{R}),\;W^\alpha_{c,b} f\in L_2(\mathbb{R}),\;0<\alpha\neq 1,\end{multlined} \] where the kernel function \(c\) is not supposed to be compactly supported, so as the sequence \(\{c_n\}\). The problem is to find effective formulae for the spectral radii of these operators. To this end the authors consider the representation \(W^\alpha_{c,b}= B_\alpha C(a)\) where \((B_\alpha f)(x)= f(\alpha x)\) (dilation) and \(C(a)= FaF^{-1}\), \(F\) and \(F^{-1}\) being the direct and inverse Fourier transforms, respectively. The authors also show which adjustments are to be done in the multidimensional case \[ \begin{multlined}(W^M_{c,b} f)(x)= \int_{\mathbb{R}^s} c(Mx- y) f(y) dy+\sum^\infty_{k\in\mathbb{Z}^s} c_k f(Mx- b_k),\\ x\in\mathbb{R}^s,\;s> 1,\;M\text{ the dilation matrix}.\end{multlined} \] They prove that the formulae for the spectral radii of these operators depend on the behaviour of the eigenvalues of the dilation matrix.
