    With help of a suitably defined integral modulus of continuity of an integrable function \(f\) on \([0,1]\) estimates are derived for its Fourier coefficients \[ a_ n(f)=\int_ 0^ 1 f(t)\overline{\chi_ n(t)}dt \] corresponding to the Chrestenson-Levy system \(\{\chi_ n(t)\}_{n=0}^ \infty\) generated by a prime \(p\geq 3\) on \([0,1)\) as follows: \(\chi_ 0(t)\equiv 1\), while for \(n>0\) of the form \(n=\sum_{j=1}^ k \alpha_ jp^{j-1} (0\leq \alpha_ j\leq p-1)\) \(\chi_ n(t)=\exp({2\pi i\over p}\sum_{j=1}^ k\alpha_ jt_ j)\), where \(t_ j=[tp^ j] (\hbox{mod }p)\) (here \([a]\) stands for the integral part of \(a>0\)). The estimates are sharp when \(n\) is a power of \(p\).
