Methods for solving one-dimensional boundary value problems in a nonlinear elastic medium (Q1814917)

The paper does not contain a clear formulation of the problem, which seems to be the wave propagation in a nonlinearly elastic half-space induced by a prescribed motion of the surface. The displacement behind the wave front is determined approximately by matched asymptotic expansions and by the ray method. The latter is applicable to waves of finite amplitude but only for short time after the passage of the wave front. Furthermore, wave propagation in a prestressed layer is treated.
