There is another proof of the theorem, that every finite-dimensional irreducible representation of the Yangian \(Y(sl(2))\) is a tensor product of representations, which are irreducible under \(sl(2)\) (theorem 3.13). This theorem was proved by the authors in an earlier paper [cf. \textit{V. Chari} and \textit{A. Pressley}, Enseign. Math., II. Sér. 36, 267-302 (1990; Zbl 0726.17013)] using some ``quantum Vandermonde determinant''. The authors claim that the techniques of the new proof may admit a suitable generalization to the case of Yangians \(Y({\mathfrak g})\) for Lie algebras \({\mathfrak g}\) with \(\text{rank} ({\mathfrak g})>1\). The explicit result is compared with the corresponding result for the classical analogue of \(Y(sl(2))\), the universal enveloping algebra \(U(sl(2) [u])\) of the Lie algebra of polynomial maps from the complex numbers into \(sl(2)\). In the second part of the paper a ``Weyl character formula'' is proved, depending only on the highest weight of the finite-dimensional irreducible representation of \(Y(sl(2))\) (theorem 4.3).
