Asymptotic and numerical solutions are given which describe the free convection boundary layer flow induced by a heated vertical cylinder embedded in a fluid-saturated porous medium. The surface temperature of the cylinder is distributed according to a power law. The nonlocal marching method is used to solve numerically the corresponding parabolic equations, and it is shown that the obtained solutions are quite satisfactory for small values of the power law index.
