Error analysis on bi-parameter finite elements (Q1817849)

The authors propose a new approach for local grid refinement based on finite elements. The approach is based on a bi-parameter finite element space \(S^{H,h}\) defined, respectively, on the whole domain with size \(H\) and a subdomain with size \(h\) \((h\ll H)\). It is proved that the approximation error distributes according to those two parameters \(H\) and \(h\).
