This paper studies the forced convection in a boundary layer adjacent to a continuous plane parallel free stream. By similarity transformation, the governing equations are reduced to nonlinear ordinary differential equations. This holds when the suction/injection velocity \(v_w(x)\) is proportional to \(x^{-1/2}\), where \(x\) measures the distance along the sheet. The ordinary differential equations are solved numerically. To this end, the equations and boundary conditions are first written in terms of a first-order system, which is then converted into a set of implicit finite difference equations by employing central differences. Next, the nonlinear algebraic equations are linearized using the method of quasi-linearization, and the resulting linear system is solved by using the block-elimination factorization. Representative velocity and temperature profiles as well as skin friction and Nusselt number are determined for some values of free-stream velocity, injection or suction parameter, Prandtl number and normalized velocity difference \(|U_w- U_\infty|\), where \(U_w\) is the velocity of the moving sheet and \(U_\infty\) is the free-stream velocity. The author shows that the results presented compare well with the ones available in the literature. The reviewer would mention that there is a very recent paper by \textit{E. Magyari} and \textit{B. Keller} [European Journal of Mechanics. B. Fluids 19, 109-122 (2000)] that also deals with this problem.
