For a well formulated fundamental theorem for relative affine hypersurfaces \(f:M\to\mathbb{R}^{n+1}\), the conormal connection \(\Delta^*:{\mathcal T}^1_0(M)\times{\mathcal T}^1_0(M)\to{\mathcal T}^1_0(M)\), given by the structure equation \(D_UdY(V)=dY(\Delta^*_UV)-\widehat S(U,V)Y\) for the conormal field \(Y\) of the hypersurface \(f\) \((U,V\in{\mathcal T}_0^1(M))\), plays a substantial role. \(\nabla^*\) is not well defined at the set \({\mathcal D}\) of the points of \(f\) where \(Y\) fails to be an immersion or, equivalently, where the metric tensor \(h\in{\mathcal T}^0_2(M)\) with the property \(h(U,V)=-dY(U)(df(V))\) degenerates. For this reason, the author introduces an (always existing) conormal dual connection \(\square^*:{\mathcal T}^1_0(M)\times{\mathcal T}^1_0(M)\to{\mathcal T}^0_1(M)\) with respect to \(h\) by \(\square^*_UV(W):=-D_UdY(V)(df(W))\) \((=h(\nabla^*_UV,W)\) for nondegenerate \(h)\) with \(W\in{\mathcal T}^1_0(M)\). This enables him to prove a fundamental theorem for the hypersurface \(f\) for its conormal dual connection being a generalization of the fundamental theorem of \textit{F. Dillen}, \textit{K. Nomizu} and \textit{L. Vrancken} [Monatsh. Math. 109, 221-235 (1990; Zbl 0712.53008)] in the case of nondegenerate metric \(h\). A new geometric object of \(f\) at \({\mathcal D}\) is added which is invariant with respect to any change of the relative normalization of \(f\).
