Implementation of digital controllers. A survey (Q1821724)

The paper is an excellent review of different aspects of implementation of digital controllers. The first part of the paper is a survey of common types of digital controllers and their structures. The important aspect of computational delay is discussed. An overview of the hardware available today is then given together with trends for the future. Implementation of digital controllers has many aspects in common with implementation of digital filters. This is discussed in connection with the choice of arithmetic. Fixed point arithmetic, scaling and structuring of the algorithm are treated. In summary the survey gives a good introduction and overview of a very large field. A long list of references makes it possible to pursuit different aspects in greater detail.
