Given a square-free positive integer \(N\), let \(X_0 (N)\) be the compactification of the coarse space of elliptic curves equipped with a cyclic subgroup of order \(N\), and let \(J_0 (N)\) be the Jacobian of \(X_0 (N)\). If \(N\) has a decomposition of the form \(N = N^+ N^-\) with \(N^-\) being the product of an even number of primes, then the associated Shimura curve \(X_{N^+, N^-}\) has a model over \(\mathbb Q\) and is obtained over \(\mathbb C\) as a quotient of the Poincaré upper half plane by some discrete group determined by \(N^+\) and \(N^-\). The correspondence of Shimizu and Jaquet-Langlands relates the new forms of weight two on \(X_0 (N)\) with those on \(X_{N^+, N^-}\). In this paper the author compares the congruences between modular forms of quotients of the new part of \(J_0 (N)\) and those of quotients of the new part of the Jacobian \(J_0 (N^+, N^-)\) of \(X_{N^+, N^-}\).
