    The author studies certain types of non-local maximal subgroups of the Baby Monster \(B\), the second largest of the 26 sporadic groups. The following result is proved. Theorem 12.1. Any maximal subgroup of \(B\) is either (1) listed in the ATLAS; (2) a conjugate of one of the groups: \((S_ 6 \times L_ 3(4) : 2).2\), \((S_ 6 \times S_ 6) : 4\), \(L_ 2(31)\), \(L_ 2(49) \cdot 2\); (3) a 2-local subgroup, or (4) a group with socle \(A_ 6\), \(L_ 2(11)\), \(L_ 2(16)\), \(L_ 2 (17)\), \(L_ 2 (19)\), \(L_ 2 (23)\), \(L_ 2 (25)\), \(L_ 3(3)\), \(L_ 3(4)\), \(U_ 3 (3)\), \(U_ 3 (8)\), \(U_ 4 (2)\), \(G_ 2 (3)\), \(^ 2F_ 4 (2)'\), \(M_{11}\) or \(M_{12}\) and containing no 5A-elements.
