The paper deals with nonlinear systems of first-order equations in the domain \(\mathbb{R}^{1}\times [ 0,\infty)\). First, the author constructs an exact solution \(u_{\nu}(x,t),\nu >0,\) to the initial value problem \[ ( u_{j}) _{t}+\left( \sum_{k=1}^{n}c_{k}u_{k}\right) (u_{j}) _{x}=\frac{\nu }{2}( u_{j}) _{xx},\quad j=1,\ldots ,n, \tag{1} \] with initial condition \(u_{j}(x,0)=u_{0j}(x),\) where \(c_{k}\) are real constants and \(u_{0j}(x)\) are bounded measurable functions. Further the author shows that the limit, when \(\nu \rightarrow 0,\) of the solutions \(u_{\nu }(x,t)\) of the equations (1), with initial Riemann data, solves the problem \(( u_{j}) _{t}+( \sum_{k=1}^{n}c_{k}u_{k}) ( u_{j}) _{x}=0,\) \( j=1,\ldots ,n\), with the same initial Riemann data. The Volpert product is used to make sense of the non-conservative products wich appear in the equations. The last section is devoted to the study of the equations \[ ( u_{j}) _{t}+\left( \sum_{k=1}^{n}c_{k}u_{k}\right) (u_{j}) _{x}\approx 0,\quad j=1,\ldots ,n, \] with initial data in Colombeau algebra. Here \(\approx \) denotes the association in the Colombeau algebra and the product is understood in the sense of Colombeau.
