Recently, a number of new classes of infinite-dimensional simple Lie algebras over a field of characteristic 0 were discovered and discussed by D. Z. Djokovic, K. Zhao, J. M. Osborn, X. Xu, Y. Su and so on. Among those algebras are the higher-rank Virasoro algebras introduced by \textit{J. Patera} and \textit{H. Zassenhaus} [see Commun. Math. Phys. 136, 1--14 (1991; Zbl 0733.17013)] and the higher-rank super-Virasoro algebras introduced by \textit{Y. Su} [see J. Math. Phys. 35, 2013--2023 (1994; Zbl 0802.17023)]. In this paper, the authors introduce and study generalized Virasoro and super-Virasoro algebras which are slightly more general than higher-rank Virasoro and super-Virasoro algebras. This paper introduces the notion of generalized super-Virasoro algebras and determines all modules of the intermediate series over the generalized Virasoro algebras and the generalized super-Virasoro algebras.
