The paper deals with the representation of current algebras. Denote by \(\mathfrak{g}\) a finite-dimensional simple Lie algebra over an algebraically closed field \(F\) of zero characteristic and consider a current algebra \(\mathfrak{L}=\mathfrak{g}\otimes_{F}\Phi\), where \(\Phi\) is an associative commutative \(F\)-algebra. Let \(\psi:\mathfrak{L}\mapsto \text{End}(V)\) be a representation of \(\mathfrak{L}\). The author obtains a sufficient condition for a representation \(\psi\) to be polynomial. Namely, let \(\mathfrak{g}=\mathfrak{n}_{-}\oplus\mathfrak{h}\oplus\mathfrak{n}_{+}\) be the canonical decomposition of \(\mathfrak{g}\) and let \(\mathfrak{L}_{\pm}=\mathfrak{n}_{\pm}\otimes\Phi\). Then \(\psi\) is polynomial if \(\mathfrak{L}_{\pm}\) act nilpotently on V and \(\mathfrak{L}\) generates a semiprimitive subalgebra of the algebra of endomorphisms of the representation space (i.e. \(R=\langle \psi(\mathfrak{L})\rangle\) is semiprimitive).
