The subject of the article deals with an alternative approach to classify in an efficient manner the transformation properties of quantum states with respect to the elements of the symmetry group, which is assumed to be finite. In other words, the Hamiltonian, a fixed set of eigenfunctions, and the symmetry group of the Hamiltonian are given and the proposed method allows one to deduce whether the eigenfunctions transform according to an unitary irreducible representation (over the field of complex numbers), or not. The basic idea consists of checking the transformation properties of the given states with respect to the generating elements of the group in question. Reviewer's remark: This approach is not new, since it is standard to apply this method in solid state physics.
