Let \(M\) be a compact Kähler manifold and \(\Omega\in H^2(M,\mathbb R)\) the de Rham cohomology class of the given metric. The so-called Bando-Calabi-Futaki character \({\mathcal F}_{\Omega}\) is an interesting character of the complex Lie algebra \(H^0(M,T)\) of holomorphic vector fields on \(M\) in the sense that \({\mathcal F}_{\Omega}\equiv 0\) if \(M\) admits a Kähler metric with constant scalar curvature and cohomology class \(\Omega\) [cf. \textit{E. Calabi}, Differential geometry and complex analysis, Vol. dedic. H. E. Rauch, 95-114 (1985; Zbl 0574.58006), \textit{A. Futaki}, Proc. Japan Acad., Ser. A 59, 401-402 (1983; Zbl 0539.53048)]. The character \({\mathcal F}_{\Omega}\) is a generalization of a character defined by \textit{A. Futaki} [Invent. Math. 73, 437-443 (1983; Zbl 0506.53030)] as an obstruction for the existence of a Kähler-Einstein metric on a Fano manifold. The Futaki-character was interpreted by \textit{A. Futaki} and \textit{S. Morita} [J. Differ. Geom. 21, 135-142 (1985; Zbl 0598.53055)] as the Godbillon-Vey invariant of some foliation structure and the author generalizes some of these results to the case of the Bando-Calabi-Futaki-character. He shows in particular that the latter character can be lifted to a group character of the complex Lie group of biholomorphic automorphisms of \(M\). Finally he gives a K-theoretic interpretation of this group character.
