Let \(X\) be a (metrizable) continuum, and let \(C(X)\) denote the subspace of the hyperspace \(2^X\) of \(X\) of all continua. The study of when \(C(X)\) is (homeomorphic to) a cone over a compactum is natural. In this paper the authors prove that if \(F\) is a fan, then \(C(F)\) is a cone over a continuum if and only if \(F\) is a cone over a compactum. They ask for a characterization of all the dendroids \(X\) for which \(C(X)\) is a cone over a continuum.
