    The author investigates compressible Navier-Stokes equations for viscous heat-conducting gas. Both a homogeneous free boundary problem with zero outer pressure and a fixed boundary problem are considered. For large initial data in \(H^1\), the existence, uniqueness and regularity of global solutions is proved for free and fixed boundary problems, and for large discontinuous data the global existence of weak solutions is established for perfect gases. The proof is based on the Banach theorem and the contractivity of an operator defined for a linearized problem on a small time interval. Then local in time solutions are extended in time based on a priori Schauder-type estimates.
