A classical result by Hermann Weyl is a formula for the volumes of a tube and a tubular hypersurface around a submanifold of the Euclidean space and the sphere. The authors investigate similar problems in space forms. They first obtain a formula for the volume of the domain \(D\) obtained by the motion along a submanifold \(P\) of a certain domain \(D_P\) in a certain totally geodesic submanifold in a space form. This volume depends on the second fundamental form of \(P\), but not of the higher fundamental forms. If \(D_P\) is a so-called \(q\)-symmetric domain, then the volume of \(D\) depends only on \(D_P\) and the intrinsic geometry of \(P\). Then they derive a formula for the volume of a hypersurface \(C\) obtained by the motion along \(P\) of a hypersurface \(C_P\) in a certain totally geodesic submanifold. This volume depends on all higher fundamental forms of \(P\). If \(C_P\) is \(q\)-symmetric, the volume depends only on \(C_P\) and the intrinsic geometry of \(P\). They obtain a lower bound for the volume of \(C\) in the set of the motions of \(C_P\) along \(P\) and discuss the case when this lower bound is attained.
